There is nothing more relaxing than a cup of coffee or tea and a good conversation.

Roanoke College’s first fall Coffee Shop Talk is coming to Mill Mountain Coffee & Tea in Salem this Thursday. Morgan Scott, a teaching associate in Roanoke’s Public Affairs Department, will discuss the topic “The Right to Privacy.”

Coffee shop talks are held the first Thursday of each month at 8 p.m.

Each talk features a different speaker who gives a short presentation about a topic of his or her expertise, followed by questions and discussion with the audience.

These talks are free and open to the public. Here’s the line up for the rest of the fall semester:

Oct. 3 – Dr. Tom Carter, an associate professor of English at Roanoke, will discuss “The Great Monterey Ghost Chase.”

Nov. 7 – Dr. Elizabeth Holbrook, an assistant professor of Health and Human Performance at Roanoke, will discuss “It Takes a Village: The Role of the Academic Partner in Stimulating Community-level Change.”

Dec. 5 – Dr. Jason Hawke, an assistant professor of History at Roanoke, will discuss “Not Just About Jesus: Ancient Paganism and our Celebrations of Christmas.”
