Roanoke College will observe the 50th anniversary of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech with a bell-ringing ceremony at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28 on the Back Quad.

The College will join “Let Freedom Ring” bell-ringing across the nation on Wednesday, capping celebrations marking the milestone anniversary of King’s now-famous speech on the National Mall on Aug. 28, 1963, during the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. Bells will toll at 3 p.m.  EDT, a half-century to the minute after King delivered his historic address.

Juliet Lowery, Roanoke College’s director of Multicultural Affairs, said those attending the College ceremony are asked to gather at 2:45 p.m.
