Roanoke students read to the crowd during last year’s Fave Filibuster.

Come lend an ear to well-known literature and writing.

Listen to Roanoke College faculty, staff and students read aloud from their own writing or from classic literature during the Fave Writers Filibuster, which is Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m at the College’s back quad stage.

Readings will include Doris Kearns Goodwin’s biography of Abraham Lincoln in her book, “Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln” to Edgar Allan Poe’s poetry to A.A. Milne’s famous Winnie the Pooh books. You’ll even hear excerpts from the novel “Fifty Shades of Grey.”

Each person will read aloud for five minutes.

The filibuster is part of Roanoke Writes, a celebration of last week’s National Day on Writing. This is the fourth year of the Roanoke Writes celebration.

Thursday’s readers will include Dean Richard Smith, Dean Jennifer Berenson, Dr. Martha Kuchar (English), Dr. Gary Hollis (Chemistry), Dr. Gordon Marsh (Fine Arts), Roanoke poetry students and many others.
